Job Description

As a Literary Count, you will, simply put, reads a lot and look for excellent works. A literary scout may work for foreign publishers. They read all the new books coming out—fiction and nonfiction—and try to pick out the works that have the best potential for translation overseas.

Job Requirements

Scouts work exclusively for one publisher in each language territory and the contract between those parties means they share information exclusively with their publishers.
A great scout has an encyclopaedic knowledge of their chosen specialist area and for that information publisher around the world will sign them up and pay for it.
Scouts are only as good as their contacts and relationship network and they talk to everyone. They absorb information and are the industrys’ experts.
